My Body, My Life

My Body, My Life: Body Image Program for Teenage Girls
The My Body, My Life: Body Image Program for Teenage Girls is being conducted by Hannah Hoile (Masters Student) and Professor Susan Paxton (School of Psychological Science, La Trobe University) and is supported by The Butterfly Foundation.

The aim of the program is to help girls feel happier with their bodies, help them to improve their self-esteem and also help to free them from any concerns they may have about their bodies and food. The program is not a weight loss program, but it does encourage girls to consider healthy eating patterns and more healthy attitudes towards their body shape and weight. The program consists of two, four-week modules which are run by a trained facilitator over the internet. The My Body, My Life: Positive Body Image module focuses on psychological factors in the development of body image and eating concerns. The My Body, My Life: Healthy Eating and Lifestyle module focuses on promoting healthy eating behaviours and lifestyle change in adolescent girls with body image and eating concerns. Girls are able to select which module they would most like to participate in, and are then welcome to complete the other module, should they so desire. The groups are run on Mondays through to Thursdays at times that suit girls who wish to be involved. The groups usually begin between 3.30pm and 4.30pm, however, these times can vary depending on the availability of group members. We do not have set starting dates as we begin the program when there are enough girls to fill a particular group.
