Victorian Parliamentary Inquiry
|
The Minister for Youth Affairs, Jacinta Allan ordered a Parliamentary Inquiry into the development of body image among young people and the associated effects on their health and wellbeing. Specifically, the Inquiry investigated ways that positive body image messages can be promoted and how support for those experiencing negative body image and eating disorders can be better coordinated. The Inquiry is now complete and the report has been released. The report is available at http://www.parliament.vic.gov.au/fcdc/. The findings of the report will inform a public policy process to raise the profile of this issue across Government portfolios and to develop a coordinated whole of government response to address negative body image among young people. This inquiry has enabled our community to have a say, to express their feelings about this issue and to share at a very official level, ideas, solutions and a way forward. This is one of the best ways to involve the community in a shared understanding of, and commitment to, overcoming all aspects of negative body image. The Inquiry received a diverse range of views and experiences from sufferers, families, health practitioners, educational professionals, sporting and fitness experts, community organisations and support groups. The public are now encouraged to provide their thoughts and suggestions regarding the recommendations of the report. Comments are to be directed to the responsible Minister, Jacinta Allan. Have your say and be an important part of finding practical and effective solutions to this critical issue. |
